Women in Science International DIRECTORY

Enabling us to discuss the many existing problems, issues facing women and societies today, and then to determine the indispensable solutions, actions, policies and programs to overcome these problems and issues, we need to recognize the role of Women in Science in the sustainable development process, policymaking, and programs. Such recognition should be through acknowledging the expertise of women in all fields of science as agents for change.

HRH Princess Dr. Nisreen El-Hashemite, Executive Director, Royal Academy of Science International Trust

Founder President, Women in Science International League

2017: Opening address of the 20th session of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development, Geneva.

History of The Women in Science International Directory

The Women in Science International League recognized the importance of women in science role models for girls and female youth, and further the need to create a platform for communication and collaboration between women in science and female students (whether members of the league or not). In September 2000, the First Directory of Women in Science was launched online.

One of the most important outcomes of the Women in Science International Directory lies in shedding light on the achievements and accomplishment of Women in Science in different fields. Further, the Directory facilitated communication between women and female students in science around the world and collaboration, which was recorded as:

58

postgraduate scholarships

92

113

88

high-school scholarships in Africa

23

237

THE DIRECTORY

The Directory contains autobiographical listings, research interests, fields of expertise, and contact details of women in science from around the globe who have an impact on sustainable development through their science, technology, and innovation achievements.

The Directory includes women from all professional disciplines: whether in social, applied, or natural sciences and humanities, and working in academia, private sectors, public sectors, civil society, inter-governmental organizations, and other areas. What makes The Directory unique is that each woman in science provides the details for her entry.

The Directory is available in two versions: Printed and Electronic. The online edition of the Directory is built for biographical searching making it a valuable resource for anyone interested in knowing about women in science and their remarkable achievements: whether to invite as a speaker, initiate a collaboration, for media interviews, societal activities, or for assisting in policymaking and action plans.

Paying tribute to women in science throughout history whether known or unknown, remembered or forgotten, who forged the way for us today in science and who shaped the events of their time, the Directory will include autobiographical listings of them, to give an opportunity for younger generations to acknowledge and recognize their work and achievements.
